Eva Barlösius is Professor of macrosociology and sociostructural analysis at Leibniz University Hannover since 2007. In 1988, she gained her Ph.D. in sociology at Universität Hannover and was habilitated from the same institute in 1994. From 1988 to 1989, she was on a Volkswagen Foundation Scholarship at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (MSH) and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. From 1991 to 1996, Eva Barlösius was appointed Junior Professor at the Institute of Agricultural Policy, Market Research and Economic Sociology at the University of Bonn. In the following years, she was interim professor of theoretical and general sociology at Heinrich Heine Universität Düsseldorf, as well as DFG Heisenberg fellow at the Wissenschaftszentrum für Sozialforschung Berlin (WZB) and interim professor of general sociology at Humboldt-Universität Berlin. Eva Barlösius was appointed full professor in 2004 at the university of Hohenheim and served as head of the Competence Center for Gender and Nutrition. In 2006 she was professor of sociology at the university of Duisburg-Essen and was then being offered a professorship from Hannover.
Eva Barlösius is also member of a number of committees, for instance the board of the German Sociological Association. She is a reviewer for the Swiss National Science Foundation and for the DFG (sociology, nutritional and agricultural sciences).
