»Unauthorized Architecture«

From their early modern invention in the Renaissance, architectural design, and the architectural profession, have been predicated upon the architect's full authorial control over the making of form, and on the architect's intellectual ownership of all end products of the design process. But today's digital design and fabrication, as well as more recent developments in building information modeling, are increasingly creating new forms of hybrid agency that may upend the modern notion of »design«, as well as most social practices traditionally related to the authorial way of designing and making objects. Digital technologies are in many ways quintessentially incompatible with modern authorship. Which post-authorial modes of agency do they portend? And which social, technical, and visual environments would the digital revival of old, »unauthorized« ways of making imply?
