Erich Hörl is assistant professor for media technology and media philosophy at the Departement for Media Studies at Ruhr University Bochum. He is the founder and head of the Bochumer Kolloquium Medienwissenschaft. Erich Hörl studied philosophy in Vienna and Paris and received his PhD at Humboldt University for his thesis on »Die heiligen Kanäle. Historisch-epistemologische Untersuchungen zur archaischen Illusion der Kommunikation.« 2003 – 2005 he was a member of the research project »Bild-Schrift-Zahl« at the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, 2004 – 2006 he was assistant professor for philosophy of technology at the Departement of Philosophy at ETH-Zürich.
