Christoph Asendorf

Christoph Asendorf received his Ph.D. in 1984 for a thesis on »Batterien der Lebenskraft. – Zur Geschichte der Dinge und ihrer Wahrnehmung im 19. Jahrhundert«. From 1988-90, he was a lecturer at the Hochschule der Künste [University of the Arts], Berlin. From 1990-95, he was a lecturer and researcher at the Bergische Universität/Gesamthochschule Wuppertal. Habilitation in 1995: »Super Constellation – Flugzeug und Raumrevolution - Die Wirkung der Luftfahrt auf Kunst und Kultur der Moderne [Super-Constellation – the Aircraft and the Revolution of Space – The Impact of Aviation on Modern Art and Culture]«. In 1996, he was appointed Professor at the Europa-Universität Viadrina, Frankfurt/Oder. In 2004/05, he was visiting fellow at the Internationales Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften (IFK), [International Research Center for Cultural Studies] in Wien. In 2008, he was awarded the Martin Warnke-Medaille and the Wissenschaftspreis [Science Award] by the University of Hamburg and the Aby-Warburg Foundation.

Fields of research

Art in modern civilisation; history of the perception of space; history and theory of modern architecture, iconography of industrialisation, history of things and their perception in modernity.
